Sharp KC-D60EUW Air Purifier Review: A Detailed Guide

Air pollution is a growing concern not just outside but also inside homes, offices, and public buildings. Indoor air can be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, according to research. Air purifiers are becoming increasingly popular as more people become aware of the harmful effects of poor indoor air quality. Sharp is a well-known name in the air purifier industry, and the Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier is one of its top models. Below is a detailed review of this air purifier, including its features, pros, and cons.

Features

The Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier is equipped with a 3-stage filtration system. It first captures large particles like hair, pet dander, and dust with its washable pre-filter. The second stage involves a True HEPA filter, which removes particles as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen, mold spores, and bacteria. The final stage of filtration is the active carbon filter, which traps odors and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

This air purifier is also equipped with Plasmacluster ion technology, which releases positive and negative ions into the air. These ions help to deactivate airborne viruses, bacteria, and mold. The technology is said to be safe and effective, producing a natural air-cleaning process that mimics the way nature cleans the air.

The Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier is suitable for medium-sized rooms, with a CADR (clean air delivery rate) of 378 cubic meters per hour. It has a clean air delivery rate of 240 cubic meters per hour for dust, 240 cubic meters per hour for pollen, and 240 cubic meters per hour for smoke. The air purifier has a dust sensor and odor sensor, which allow it to automatically adjust the fan speed when it detects pollutants in the air.

The air purifier also comes with a humidifying function, which adds moisture to the air. The humidifier has a tank capacity of 2.5 liters and can operate for up to 10 hours. The humidification function is particularly useful in cold and dry weather to prevent dry skin and improve breathing.

Pros

One of the main advantages of the Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier is its 3-stage filtration system, which includes a True HEPA filter and active carbon filter. The air purifier is effective at removing particles as small as 0.3 microns, which means it can capture fine dust, pollen, and even bacteria in the air.

The Plasmacluster ion technology is another highlight of this air purifier. The technology is said to be safe and effective in deactivating viruses, bacteria, and mold in the air. It produces a natural air-cleaning process that is similar to how nature cleans the air.

The Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier also has a humidifying function, which is useful in dry weather to prevent dry skin and improve breathing. The humidifier has a decent tank capacity and can operate for up to 10 hours.

Cons

One of the main drawbacks of the Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier is its high price. It is one of the more expensive air purifiers on the market, which may be a deterrent for some buyers.

The air purifier’s noise level is also comparatively high, with a sound level of 49 to 55 decibels. This may not be an issue for some users, but it may be a concern for those who want a quieter air purifier.

Conclusion

Overall, the Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier is an excellent choice for those looking for a high-quality air purifier with advanced features. Its 3-stage filtration system, Plasmacluster ion technology, and humidifying function make it an effective device for improving indoor air quality. However, its high price and noise level may be a drawback for some buyers.

We have been using it at home for about a month, which I can say so far:
The Sharp KC-D60EUW looks very good, the casing materials are solid. It has wheels with a lock – a plus. The air outlet has a closed flap that closes when the purifier is not working. In the competitive Daikin model that is with friends, this option is not available.

The sensor of dust and volatile organic compounds (unpleasant odors) control the operation of the purifier in automatic mode. The thermometer and the humidity sensor decide when to turn off humidification to obtain the right conditions (the system is called a hygrostat). It seems from our observations that the automation works well, although we are waiting for the winter season

The operation of the sensors is correct, only the dust sensor is worse. Autocalibration in clean air after commissioning is required for proper operation. This is impractical and most users only find out about it when they notice the very poor detection of PM2.5. Even after correct calibration, the sensor reacts to PM2.5

At the moment, we recommend this model for a single-family house – a room thanks to about 25 square meters of space.

Alright, we can see that the system works well at reducing dust – I am pretty sure that this works to some extent as a general cleaning technique and not for an environmental issue, and I know that it has already been used on many of the cities in Europe.

I am satisfied, it has been working for several months and the effects are noticeable … the allergy of the game is less, I am allergic to the mite and thanks to it I sleep all night without dust.

What are the maintenance requirements for the Sharpe KC-D60EUW air purifier?

The Sharpe KC-D60EUW air purifier requires minimal maintenance to keep it functioning optimally. Here are some recommended practices:

1. Replace the filter: The air purifier comes with a HEPA and activated carbon filter that needs replacement every 6-8 months, depending on usage. Regularly check the filter indicator light on your unit; when it turns red, it's time to replace the filter.

2. Clean the pre-filter: The pre-filter traps large particles such as hair, dust, and pet dander. You should clean this filter every 1-2 months by gently vacuuming or wiping it with a damp cloth.

3. Keep the unit away from direct sunlight: Direct exposure to sunlight can cause overheating and affect the performance of your air purifier. Ensure that you place your unit in a shaded area or away from windows with strong sunlight.

4. Regularly vacuum the surrounding area: Dust and debris accumulate around your air purifier just like any other device. Make sure to clean this area regularly to prevent dust buildup.

5. Check for obstructions: Ensure that there are no objects blocking your air purifier's intake or outtake vents. Obstructions can reduce the efficiency of your unit and affect its performance.

6. Follow manufacturer's instructions: Always refer back to the user manual provided by Sharp for specific maintenance guidelines related to your particular model.

How do I properly maintain the Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier to ensure optimal performance?

To maintain the optimal performance of your Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier, we recommend the following steps:
1. Regularly replace the filter: The KC-D60EUW uses a True HEPA Type filter that captures 99. Over time, this filter will become loaded with contaminants and should be replaced every 12 months or when the replacement indicator on the purifier flashes. Clean the pre-filter: The pre-filter captures larger particles such as hair and dust, preventing them from clogging the True HEPA Type filter. It should be cleaned or replaced as needed based on usage and environment conditions. Wipe down surfaces: Periodically wipe down the exterior of the purifier with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris that may have accumulated. Keep it clean: Avoid allowing dust, hair, or other debris to accumulate around the air intake grill. This will prevent the unit from operating efficiently and potentially cause damage to the motor or filter. Place in optimal location: The Sharp KC-D60EUW should be placed in a room with a closed door, ideally 2 feet away from walls, furniture, and other obstructions that may impede airflow. Avoid placing it near windows, doors, or other sources of air drafts as this will reduce its effectiveness. By following these maintenance steps, you can ensure the Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier continues to function at peak performance, providing cleaner and healthier indoor air for your home or office environment.

How do I properly maintain the air filters on my Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier?

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to properly maintain the air filters on your Sharp KC-D60EUW air purifier:

1. Locate the air filter compartment - It is located at the back of the air purifier, near the bottom. Turn off and unplug the unit - This ensures your safety and prevents any accidental operation while you're working on the filters. Remove the old air filters - Slide out the old filters by gently pushing them in the direction indicated by the arrows marked on the compartment cover. The filters may be slightly stuck at first, but a gentle push should do the trick. Inspect the filters for wear and tear - Check if they're still working efficiently or if they need replacement. A worn-out filter will have visible dirt and debris buildup on its surface. Clean the air filter housing - Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the interior of the filter compartment to remove any dust or debris that may have accumulated there. Install the new filters - Slide in the new air filters into the compartment with the arrows indicated on their sides aligned with those marked on the compartment cover. Make sure the filters are properly seated and secured. Replace the filter compartment cover - Press it firmly back into place, ensuring that the cover clicks securely when closed. Plug the unit in and turn it on - Confirm that the air purifier is functioning correctly and that the filters are working efficiently. It's recommended to replace your Sharp KC-D60EUW air filter every 6 months, depending on usage. This ensures optimum performance and efficiency of the air purifier in keeping your indoor space clean and healthy.
